PARENTS

Here at  Notre Dame in Elmira, New York the parents/guardians are vital to the function of the school. We strongly believe that heavy parent involvement is a key component to our success. Each day we make it our goal to ensure every child and parent be enabled to take full advantage of all that this admirable private school in Elmira has to offer.

Why is Parent Involvement Key?
In a National Education Association's (NEA) review of research conducted on the best practices in education, it was proven just how beneficial parent involvement can be to the student. "When schools, families, and community groups work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and like school more," stated a report from Southwest Educational Development Laboratory (2002). The report also found that regardless of family income or background, students with involved parents are more likely to:

  • Earn higher grades and test scores, and enroll in higher-level programs

  • Be promoted, pass their classes, and earn credits

  • Attend school regularly

  • Have better social skills, show improved behavior, and adapt well to school

  • Graduate and go on to a post secondary education

At Notre Dame, a student's tuition does not cover the full cost of education, therefore, we ask that parents help make up the difference by volunteering in the school or participating in fundraising activities. While many of the students reside locally or within the Southern Tier some parents may not be available to participate in many fundraising events.  If parents are unable to do this then we invite them to be Super Crusaders, which allows them to make a gift to make up the difference. This engagement from our parents has proven beneficial for the function of the school and the success of our students. We are extremely grateful for the commitment and support that we receive from our parents on a daily basis and we recognize that in partnering with our parents it will ensure student success.
